450,000 sq ft 41,810 sq m (100 acre site)
In late 2012, as part of Canadian Pacific’s new re-energized corporate strategy, S2 was engaged to develop a new, four building, 450,000 sq ft office campus in the century old Ogden railyard in SE Calgary. The new CP Rail Headquarters’ project includes the complete renovation and re-purposing of four buildings into Class A office space and will include a 75,000 sq ft Steel Car Repair Shop, a 45,000 sq ft Rail Wash Building, a 180,000 sq ft Administration Building and a 120,000 sq ft Maintenance of Way Building. In addition to the complete re-purposing and re-skinning of the four buildings, S2 is also working with the Client to upgrade the Power Plant to accommodate a centralized heating, power and cooling distribution centre and the re-purposing of a Locomotive Shop into a 600-stall parkade. The 100 acre campus will co-exist within a very active railyard so S2 is developing a design that is mindful of the unique site characteristics while still realizing the Client’s vision of a functional, environmentally responsive, financially viable major urban revitalization. The firm will also design the urban landscape for the new campus and are completing the design of a public art component that will be part of the site landscape comprising a locomotive and memorial. The project was completed in early 2014, an ambitious schedule for a project of this size and complexity.
